Gold medal for Valdemonte Young Red wine, and 3 Silver Medals for Castillo de Santa Bárbara Reserva, Finca los Altos Gran Reserva and Rio de la Luna Gran Reserva.
On San Valentine´s day, the international wine competition Sakura Wine Awards 2017 published its results. The award-winning were selected among 4,212 wines from 37 countries as the result of the tasting assessment by 406 female juries from Jan.28th to Feb.1st, 2017.
“Even Japanese ladies have appreciated our Valdemonte. It is certainly a wine which allows excellent matches with the cuisines of distant countries, conceived to go hand in hand with food without dominating it. A 100% female jury has awarded him a gold medal and we are proud of It.” commented Fernando Castro, owner and GM of the winery, the fifth generation of a winegrower’s family.
The Gold Medal, Valdemonte distinguished itself for being 100% elaborated with Tempranillo grape and its Appellation of Origin Valdepeñas. A wine produced from vines planted on clayey, limestone soils, crossed by the River Jabalón and seared by the sun. This Tempranillo possesses an intense and brilliant cherry red color and shows aromas of red berry fruit and hints of ripe cherries. The palate is full with velvety tannins.
